Giving up a child because of poverty…that does something to your heart.
The heart that remembers the little girl with the big black eyes and clings to the promise that she is happy, eating well, and enjoying the benefits of the education Mom never received. The heart that catches whenever it notices a boy with that nose. That hair. That voice.
Mothers never forget.
We’ve heard the stories of illness, abandonment and abuse a thousand times. The whispers of neighbours and relatives, telling Mom that the baby is a burden. That he would be better off at an orphanage, cared for by rich westerners. That Mom is selfish to subject him to the same life she’s lived.
That Mom isn’t enough.
And that’s where we come in. With a bit of help with rent or food, maybe with the chance to start a small business, with a daycare spot for Baby, or some consistent counselling to help rebuild her life, Mom can keep her child. She is in fact the best-suited. She is the one Baby wants most.
This Mothers’ Day, help a Mom keep her child.
Give her the gift of knowing that she is enough.
